It seems today that nothing is going right.
Things are not going the way I’d choose them to be going. You know, it’s one of those days when it seems like things just aren’t going to work out.
Yes, I still have these days when things appear to me in this way, and the negative feelings are more than happy to jump in. Oh don’t even get me started…
Here is my personal list of things to do/remember when days like today come around;
Things always work out: How many times have I faced days like today? How many times has it seemed as if there wasn’t enough money, or I’ve felt like I just idon’thave the energy to go on? How many times have I felt doomed by the negativity? And yet somehow I’m still here. And that means that things have always worked out. Even when I was totally convinced that they wouldn’t. And so they will probably work out this time too.
Get busy and do what needs doing: The absolute worst thing we can do on days like this, is to sit around thinking about how bad it is. No, this is certainly not helpful. There is a “to do” list. Do it! Get busy. Move. Go somewhere and get around people. Do not isolate. Maybe even perhaps call someone else who you know is having a tough time or do something to help someone else. It is a proven fact that when we are busy thinking about someone else, … we aren’t thinking about ourselves.
Maybe, just maybe, there is a bigger plan: Admittedly, I don’t always see things coming. I don’t always know what lies around the next turn. Looking back over my life it is more than obvious that the Universe has a plan for me. But I don’t always see it. I don’t always know what it is that is coming. So I have to stick to my principals. There must be a reason or reasons why things are the way they are right now. There is more to this story than just today. There is a much bigger picture. And so like it or not, I must accept things as they are, knowing that this isn’t all there is to it.
Be like the hawk: Fly above the situation. Circle it. Look down on it. See it in an objective way. Look at your life as if it isn’t you. Just try to see the larger picture. If I can get out of myself and look at my life with no judgement, just look at it for what it is, this can be a big help. We do spend a lot of time talking about and working on being in the “now,” but there is a lot to said for taking moments to look at the bigger picture. It hasn’t always been this way and it won’t always be this way. This is just what it is right now.
Maybe everything is going right! Put on some music that you like. Listen to an inspirational talk. Remember that the Universe is on your side and is actually for you, and not against you. We have convinced ourselves that everything is going wrong, so we can just as easily convince ourselves that the opposite is true. Maybe it looks like everything is wrong, but what if everything is actually working in our favor and we just don’t see that right now?
Have a good day anyway: I can do all these things and still feel not so good. Yes. But at the end of the day I can look back and see all the accomplishments. Got this done and got that done and spent some time with my family. Am I going to wait until conditions meet my demands before I feel good? Or can I feel good now in spite of everything that seems to be going wrong?
Laugh: Last but certainly not least, find something to laugh at. I often laugh at myself. Yes… often I come around and see that I’ve blown things up a little bigger than they actually are. If not yourself, watch a funny movie, or get with someone who is a little more light-hearted.
I think I’d like to be happy right now. And it is time to go get busy doing what needs doing.
