What Truly Matters?

Lilly Belle and Maximus the cat.

This afternoon I laid in the hammock and slept in the sun for an hour or so. Then began to hear the girls and the animals, and so I got up to feed the animals, and the girls and I had a nice outdoor dinner.

Then we went for a walk. Lily road her bike round and round Heather and I and Coco the dog, and Maximus, our cat who comes on our daily walk with us most of the time.

Lily Belle(our 8 year old) usually has Irish Dancing on Monday’s, but they had a big workshop all weekend, and so they had taken today off.

Lily and her mom are most tight. Heather has always been so attentive and good about playing and having special time with Lily. And I knew that tonight, Lily had gotten Heather to promise her some “doll playing” time.

“Dada do you want to play Monster High dolls with us?”

What?

“I’ll play but I gotta warn you that I am really good at Monster High dolls.” I said.

“Okay well come on then.” she replied.

Understand that this is usually something I don’t get invited to. Why I got invited tonight, I have no idea.

But it was great.

Now hours later with Lily in bed and Heather watching one of her shows on t.v. I sit here in my office and think about what really matters in life.

And it comes to me how lucky I am. My work with Unity of Savannah and my studies, all of my friends who love and support me no matter what, and all the music I get to play…

My life is full. And it is full of people and things who really matter.

Trust me… this year has not been anything like I had originally planned. It must be true that, “If you want to make God laugh, just tell Him your plans.”

But I see it perfectly unfolding just as it is. And as I surrender and come more and more to understand that there is a possibility that maybe, just maybe, I don’t always know what’s best for me,

it becomes more clear that the Universe does.

And THAT is what matters.

I invite you now, to along with me, take a deep breath and go into the heart space. Relax and let all the tension slip away. It is okay. And let’s spend a few minutes thinking about the people in our lives that really matter.
