Vacation 2013

Did you know that it is impossible for a vacation to last long enough? Even for a guy like me, who’s profession is based around what he loves, I could still be on Jeckyll Island, floating in the ocean and playing in the pool. I often say “I am always doing what I want to be doing, so why would I want to go on vacation?” However, when your love or your hobby, turns into your profession, it can easily become overbearing and consume every waking and sleeping moment of your life. So even if you do what you love for a living, it is good to break away. Thankfully, my lovely wife is not afraid to walk out into my office garage with her calendar, and peer at my calendar, and then say “We are going away on such and such days, so book it!” Otherwise I might work myself into an early grave, even if it is doing what I love.

She’s right. It is when we get away that I can really focus on her and our daughter. This is “our family time” together, and it is all about us. Life is short, school starts soon,

and there is never a shortage of work to do. You have to make the time for what really matters in your life. Just in case you were wondering, what really matters in life are the people you love.

We got a hotel on the water, and it had not one, but two wonderful swimming pools. One pool even sported a hot tub, which I really enjoyed. We went to a Sea Turtle Hospital, and Summer Waves, both of which are on Jeckyll Island, and then we spent the evenings on St. Simons, eating, having ice cream, and

playing in the park next to the pier. Also, my friend John took us for a nice late afternoon/early evening boat ride, which was easily the highlight of the trip.

I am very grateful that my wife and I both work in the arts, and that we get to do what we love for a living! I am very grateful for our daughter as well. I waited till late in life to have a child (40), and Lily is the best thing ever. She is just so much fun and so playful, and she really helps me see the world through her eyes. She listens and watches, and has questions galore, but is always ready for us to play chase.

Did I mention that Lily has a great passion for animals? They seem to like her too! We got two Red Eared Sliders, and are now fixing them up with a nice house to live.

Now it is back to the music gigs and the meditations, and seeing whoever SPIRIT brings my way. 🙂IMG_2339
