Recently I was reading bedtime stories to my daughter and came across a very thought provoking story. There was this guy and he was trying to sleep, but his house was too noisy. There were leaky faucets, he heard creaks and moans, and he couldn’t sleep. Night after night, it drove him crazy, so he went to a wise man and explained the situation. The wise man told him to get a cow in his house, and of course the cow made even more noise, so he went back to the wise man. Over the next few days he kept going back to the wise man and the wise man instructed him to get various animals, all of which were loud. The wise man didn’t make sense to the poor guy at all, but he tried all the suggestions, until finally he couldn’t take it anymore.
“This is stupid!” he screamed at the wise man. (or something like that) He explained that his house had been noisy to begin with, and had only gotten worse with the addition of each new animal. So the wise man said “Get rid of all the animals!”
That night the man slept very well. His house seemed as quiet as could be. The faucets still leaked, there were still creaks and moans, but he couldn’t hear them anymore.
