– Running from feelings only prolongs them, and makes them bigger. Going to your feelings will make them shrink and go away. Its as simple as that.
– It really is okay to feel whatever you feel.
-Feelings, though they may be painful, will generally pass quickly , unless you refuse them.
People say to me all the time “I don’t want to slow down, because then I will have to feel those feelings.” This is exactly why so many of us live in the mind instead of as the souls that we actually are. The soul is left dormant, unattended, and asleep, and we live completely in our minds. Many people are even surprised to find out that they have a soul, that there is a “self” in there.
Running from feelings only prolongs them, and makes them bigger. Going to your feelings will make them shrink and go away. Its as simple as that. During a recent workshop that I was leading on meditation, a woman said “When I get quiet, I just get so utterly sad, and I can’t deal with it.” My response was “What’s wrong with being sad?” She replied “I don’t know, I just don’t want to be sad.” I then replied “Well you already are!” If you are running from or avoiding feelings, they won’t just go away. They are always there beneath the surface, and they have negative effects on everything you do. You are denying them, and they aren’t going to go away until you accept them and allow them. If you can just allow yourself to feel however you feel, you can watch them vanish into thin air. I suggested to the woman that she go to her sadness and that she be as sad as she could be. I told her that it is okay, and perfectly normal to feel sadness. This is when she smiled and laughed. Presto!
It really is okay to feel whatever you feel. You truly are not your feelings. Feelings, though they may be painful, are not going to hurt you, unless you refuse them.
Give it a try!
Many blessings to you today!
