He never took the credit.
He never says that, “I healed you because I deem you worthy,” or “Because you sit in meditation for one hour every day, I will heal you.”
“It is your faith that has done the healing.”
Jesus didn’t point to himself, nor did he point to God. He places the focus back to where it came from.
My favorite healing story can be found in Mark 5: 25-32, when just by touching the hem of Jesus’ garments, a lady received a healing.
A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” 29Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.
30At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”
31“You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”
32But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”
It makes me wonder, “What or who do I have faith in?” “Do I have faith?” and “If I have faith, then how do I demonstrate it?”
Personally, I have experienced healing in my life. Some of it has been physical, some of it has been mental and emotional. Oddly enough, it seems to me that the greatest healing came when i felt no faith at all.
Maybe someone with great faith was praying for me?
I’m not the kind of person who is going to tell you what or who to have faith in. But I am the kind of person who will point out to you, and to myself as well, that it is important for us to know exactly who and what we do have faith in.
I think we all have faith in something, and I think that our faith shows clearly in our lives. Even with an atheist, you could say that they have faith that there is no God.
Jesus tells us that the power lies within us. It comes from us. It is because of our faith that we have inside, that we are healed.
Let us examine ourselves more closely today. Let us ask ourselves, “What do I truly see?” “What do I truly know?” “What do I truly have faith in?”
And let us place and keep our focus right there.
For it is by your faith that you will be healed.
